In the far north of Scotland lie the lowlands that lie beyond the Highlands. This low lying fertile land is where the finest Scottish oats and barley are grown by the farmers and crofters of Caithness. These oats were originally milled in the mills powered from the burns and rivers that meander through these fertile lands.
It was the oats and flour from these mills that Donald Reid's grandmother used to bake her delicious biscuits and cakes over 100 years ago. Her recipes have been passed down to her grandson and are used in the making of Reid's products today.
Donald Reid began his Bakery in 1963. By 1968 he was joined by his wife Joyce, who supervised the new High Street retail shop in Thurso. Today the third generation at Reid's includes brothers Graeme and Gary.

In 2008 Reid's of Caithness won two gold Taste awards through their production of biscuits for Mey Selections. In 2009 they won a gold Taste award for their Treacle & Toffee biscuit along with the Highlands & Islands Food & Drink new product award for this exciting new range.
The introduction in 2009 of their own brand range of five biscuits and of five loaf cakes brings an added dimension to the Scottish Food Industry.
The biscuits include: Oat and Honey Biscuits, Oatcakes, Butter Shortbread, Treacle Toffee Biscuits and Groaties (mini Oatcakes).
The cakes include: Fruited Viking Cake, Crofters Cake, Ginger Cake, Cherry Cake and Toffee Cake.
Both the Cake and Biscuit ranges are available through regional and national distributors.
